If you are feeling a little achy and sluggish with all the snow and cold weather, this is a great detox water recipe you can make in just a few minutes and sip throughout the day. You you can easily double the recipe and/or add more water if you plan on infusing the lemon, basil, and cucumbers for more than an hour. The longer you infuse the water (but no more than 9 hours), the more benefits the water will have. Why this works is detailed below:
Why it Works:
Lemon juice (from fresh lemons) contains pectin fiber, which is an excellent antibacterial and also benefits colon health by aiding our body’s ability to remove waste. It reduces joint pain and inflammation because it helps dissolve uric acid. Cucumbers and lemons also contain potassium, an electrolyte that helps regulate how much sodium your kidneys retain. High sodium and low potassium contribute to high blood pressure. Basil contains both antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that fight viruses and infections. In addition, basil, lemon, and cucumbers are all high in antioxidants which helps fight free radical damage.
